I don’t know about other people but I think a lot, and often get lost in my thoughts. Hours and hours of essay writing time can be filled with thinking. Thinking about? Glad you asked. Not meaning to sound egotistical here but 99% of the time I’m thinking about myself, stuff that affects me and my relative position to other things. Now my view on this: I live, grow, speak, motion and think through this body and there is a whole lot of think about that involved me (not saying everything is about me, I’m saying everyone has an involvement in almost everything).
A lot of what I think about involves one of two things.
1. Myself in relation to others. And how they perceive me. Now I know, I know, you should “not worry over how people see you” but I do. And I do a lot. And I can’t help it.
2. How I can use myself to create something. Now this is quite broad. I always have ideas floating around in my head, always (which is maybe why I find it incredibly challenging to sleep sometimes). They are usually about 3 things:
Efficiency (perhaps the way Henry Ford thought): “a great new way for people to be more efficient online”, “simplifying certain ways we do things”. All about automation, aggregation and method.
Something new: Finding that niche market that hasn’t been tapped into yet (or has been tapped into but hasn’t done it right - relating back to efficiency). Examples of this? There’s a website I came across about 4-5 months ago called manpacks.com which sells socks, t-shirts and undies by subscription. So I thought it was a fantastic idea (especially since I was working in mens fashion retail for nearly 2 years and seen the number of wives who would come in for their husbands to buy these items) and tweeted it out to followers. Thought, why not create a New Zealand version of this? Oh 2 days ago, Dan from The Apprentice NZ launched mansupplies.co.nz. Damn. Another idea I’m more and more thinking about is Recommendations. For example, say you wanted to buy a blender today, or you wanted to listen to some new music, or you wanted to hear news that you’d be interested in. Now is there something that would know so much about you, it could recommend this type of stuff to you? I think we need a service that tailors results to your needs (and bringing a social aspect to this could make it engaging).
Me: As much as a huge consumer of media I am, I’m always thinking of different ways to “create”. Which is where my inspiration of video blogging came from (my channel) but I have the desire to write (a book?), talk (on a podcast?) direct (a film/play), create (music, a cartoon, a business, a community, a way to help). What’s up with me wanting to create? Is it that I have too many influences? Is it that I want to get my name out there? Is it that I want to leave a mark of where I once was?
Ultimately I want to create an “life” archive that will
Past: Archive it and present it in an orderly manner for easy viewing.
Present: A clear view of what I am currently up to. My latest videos/photos/tweets/thoughts.
Future: List of goals which I am working up to, or aiming to reach some day.
This (vincentlee.co.nz and maybe someday vincentlee.com or vincent.com) will be my archive (WIP) and will continue to be my archive. Now I don’t know why you are still reading this… Hmm. Basically been rambling to myself about the way I think and what I mainly think about. I may post a follow-up to this later on, expanding on “Myself in relation to others”. But until my next article, thanks for reading and feel free to subscribe for updates like these by filling in the “Subscribe for Updates” form in the right-hand column on this page.
